Everyone has insecurities. They are especially prevalent in the life of a female teenager such as myself. Society has set unrealistic body standards for both men and women. I think that a person’s body is something that they should feel comfortable in and never be ashamed of. This has been a struggle for me living in a world where being thin and beautiful is so heavily valued. My concentration focuses on the insecurities of some of my close family and friends. Rather than painting them to examine and criticize them, I want these insecurities to be appreciated and welcomed. I painted the part of the body true to the picture using oil paint, but altered the background to contain colors that are recognized as warm and calming. Everyone is beautiful in their own shape or form.
