When I create my main goal is to explore. I want to learn how to use new materials, techniques, colors, form, etc. One of my favorite aspects of my artwork to which I have learned via this exploration is that of applying oil pastels atop my oil painting work. I find this elevates the child-like wonder I aim to create in these pieces, in which the key focal point is either myself or my siblings when they were younger. As a kid all you can do is explore, the world is your oyster, one perfectly fit for crayon drawings on every flat surface you can find, even if that means the walls to much parental dismay, a kind of exploration and rule-breaking I still replicate in my artwork today. In my future works, I hope to continue this motif and explore other ways in which I can apply different media on top of my completed oil paintings.
