By depicting familiar scenes, stories, or scenarios in the world, I create imagery that evokes feelings of nostalgia and comfort. I work in a variety of media, such as ink, gouache, and watercolor. I also work in media such as crayon and colored pencil, which are more associated with childhood, to convey the feeling of remembering things from long ago. My creative process includes connecting the prompt to my themes of coming of age, creating thumbnail sketches of my idea, taking note of the medium I want to use, and fully fleshing out the one with the strongest composition. I make my work to shed light on the process of coming of age to understand and process my own transition into adulthood, which brings me clarity. I also make it for older audience members, in the hopes that they grow more conscious and empathetic towards the issues younger people face. Most importantly, I make it for younger audience members so they can resonate with my art and feel seen or understood.
